It’s time to make your New Year’s Resolutions!
And I hope this helps you get everything you
have ever wanted!

When you make a resolution, the only way your
resolutions are going to happen is if you have
enough personal authority in your life to follow
through on your dreams.  Personal authority is
a rare commodity on this planet.  I hope to
shed some light on how you can get more of it! 

MY NEW YEARS RESOLUTION:
BE THE AUTHORITY IN MY LIFE
As an owner and teacher in a school that is
all about personal empowerment, I often see an
amazing conflict in people who are trying to
regain ground on the real authority they need
to live their life purpose.  The illusion is
that once you have authority you no longer
need to give it over to anyone else.  But
that is exactly the opposite of what is true. 

Amazingly, until you can give authority to
others and surrender your will to them
consciously and fearlessly, you cannot have
real authority in your life. It is the
strangest paradox of developing the
authority you need to live your life purpose.  

“TAKE BACK” YOUR AUTHORITY
The “take back Wall Street” and the
“Arab Spring” are just the tip of the iceberg
of the authority revolution that is about to
happen on planet Earth.  Each of us is here
to have authority.  Taking back your power
and authority from those in authority in
the world is an important symbolic act, but
not the complete answer.  Learning to take
it back within yourself, is.   

Human beings on planet Earth currently live
in what is called a submissive paradigm. 
That means that more people are submitting
to authority than have it.  The power is now
in the hands of a tiny percentage of the
people on the planet, less than .001% (my guess
are actually not reporting to someone. 
Most power and authority in the world is
based on the control of resources and has
little to do with real spiritual power. 
There are no souls in human form that are
“less than” or “better than” any others. 
“Taking back” your authority is tricky for
two reasons.  First you never lost your
authority you just give it away every day
as you resist your life.  Second, when you
have authority you are not against anything,
you are for life in all its forms. 

Just being mad and going to war does not
create authority, if it did there would be
no more war.  Only those without authority go
to war out of fear of losing their authority.   

CHANGE TAKES TRUST IN AUTHORITY
Einstein said, the “The same mind that created
the problem cannot solve it.”  We all need
teachers to wake us up and push us out of our
comfort zone.   The human mind is a hall of
mirrors where everything we look at only reflects
the mind and how it already thinks.  Until a
student can trust a teacher as an authority
to show them a new way of seeing and filtering
the world, all they are doing in all their
endeavors with authority is trying to prove
that what they already know is right.  If you
know at some level that you are missing
something in your life but can’t trust and
surrender to others to teach you, you are in
a real pickle.

Now I don’t want to give you the impression
that I am in somehow in favor of the Guru model
of enlightenment.  To give over your authority
to someone forever is childish.  Teachers appear
to us as we need them, then they move on with no
attachment.  To learn from them we must surrender
our will to let them guide us till we have enough
authority to move on.  Teachers let us see the
world from different eyes or from a higher vantage
point.  Teachers come to you to promote change
and growth.

No person with authority is ever trying to control
you or keep you dependent.  A  master teachers
entire focus is to teach their pupils to have
their own authority, be disciplined and independent. 

AUTHORITY’S CATCH 22
Authority is a tricky concept, a Catch 22 of the
mind.  Until you fully surrender your authority
to another, you will not be open enough understand
what they have to teach you.  Every teacher who
appears to you, or that you are drawn to, has a
gift that you can only get by trusting them and
surrendering your way, for their way. To do this
though you must have enough authority to know
that you are not submitting, your are surrendering
willingly to grow.  

Every relationship you are in is teaching you
about your authority and the importance of
personal integrity.  Until you have surrendered
your authority to others and learned the
importance of trust and authority, you will
not have the integrity to hold real authority
in your life with those who surrender to you as
their teacher. 

NO ONE WILL GIVE YOU AUTHORITY
As I pondered my own authority I realized that
authority has been at the heart of my spiritual
journey and has been essential in my discovery
of my life work and purpose.   No one ever gave
me the authority or permission to live my unique
life purpose, I had to take it.  This is true
for everyone.  Even those that love you the most
still would rather you be more like them than
like you.  In my life, as long as I childishly
hoped someone else would discover me or do
something for me that I was afraid to, I
attracted authority figures who treated me
like a child not with integrity.     

CHILDREN GIVE OVER AUTHORITY UNCONSCIOUSLY
In my life I have given authority “over me”
to many people unconsciously like a child. 
Mom, dad, brother, friends, girlfriends, teammates,
coaches, wife, children, students, bosses,
businesses, government, political parties, etc. 
Each one has been a powerful authority teacher
in my life.   Most in how not to hold authority. 

The way I know that I have entered a relationship
like and unconscious child is that I get
disappointed and mad, and I reject them when
they do not take care of me or treat me the way
I assume they should.  You can use the
complain-o-meter to see where you have given over
your authority to others.  Anger, whining and
complaining are my dead giveaways that I have
lost my sense of authority in my life.   This
is how a child is in relationships with the
world of authority, always hoping for others
to do it for them and getting angry or hurt
feelings when they don’t do it right. 

ADULTS MUST BOW TO AUTHORITY CONSCOIUSLY
I learned in my teens when I started learning
Tae Kwon Do that a student always bows before
entering the training area, and always bows to
the instructor.  In the east this is common
practice to bow to others an honor them with
respect.  In America that is a foreign concept,
respect is usually only given to those we need
something from.  At first I did it because I
wanted them to teach me, 10 years later I realized
that I needed to respect them to learn anything
from them. 

In the East, the bow as you enter the room
symbolically is to train you to leaving my ego
at the door, honoring the authority of the art
and teacher and entering with an open heart and
mind.  If my heart and mind are full of what I
already know, then there will be no room for
anything new.

FINDING MASTER TEACHERS
Each time I found a conscious master teacher, and
left my ego at the door, what emerged was very
different from what happened when I worked with
other teachers.  In interactions with these people,
they pushed me to my limits, yet there was a respect
and integrity for me and my specific gifts and
limitations.  They held authority not by their
position or qualifications, but from their humanity. 
The art they taught was just the tool they used to
awaken others.  They were very aware of the
responsibility they had to me as I surrendered my
authority to them, and never abused the power. 
I felt like I earned my authority with each of
them rather than feeling that they gave it to me. 

I feel very fortunate to have found so many great
teachers that have guided me in my life.  I
changed the way I taught tennis and has given
me the foundation for how I teach healing and
self development today. 

THE GIFT OF A GREAT TEACHER
To surrender to an authority is the trust to let
them be your guide as they let you stand on their
shoulders that you might see the world from a
higher perspective. All of my mentors did that
for me.  No strings attached, just held me up
long enough till I could do it on my own.  
Then they set me free and continued on their path.

As I surrendered to them I could see how they
held their power responsibly and how they were
responsible for me without controlling me or
feeling superior.  When I felt inferior to a
teacher I learned nothing but childlike contempt
of their skills.  When they felt superior to me
I learned nothing because they could not see me
to teach me.  When we agreed to play our roles
in each other’s lives in the teacher pupil contract,
(which I consciously signed up for) me as a surrendered
student, and they as teacher authorities, I learned
about the magic that can exist between a teacher
and pupil.    
AUTHORITY IS THE SPIRITUAL JOURNEY
The spiritual journey is the journey of giving
yourself more and more permission to hold all
the authority you were born to hold.  With that
authority comes power to manifest a wonderful
life and heaven on Earth.  It would be nice to
believe that we can do this ourselves, but
authority is learned through human relationships
and by example.  Your ability to trust even one
person in your life, and surrender to their
leadership is where it starts.  Where it ends
is a fearless ability to trust your inner guidance.   

TAKING AUTHORITY IS TRAINING FOR YOUR SPIRITUAL PURPOSE. 
Keep in mind that the authority issues you work
through down here in planet Earth with people
are just training for the highest authority dynamic. 
The highest authority you need to surrender to is God. 
You practice with people to figure out what it
feels like and sounds like to be guided into your
life purpose.  They speak English and are direct. 
God speaks in metaphor and dreams and coincidence. 
Surrendering to your gut intuition, or a dream or
a déjà vu and not your fear of change or being
labeled as different takes discipline and practice.    

When God calls you to pick up your bed and move to
a different part of the world, or leave a 25 year
job or relationship that no longer feeds you, or
start a business with no money in your pocket, or
all of the above, you better have practiced
surrendering your will to a purpose higher that
your ego and survival needs.     

If you haven’t learned how to trust higher authority
to guide you toward your right livelihood, self love
and daily discipline, how do you think you will have
enough authority to take action when god calls you to
your life purpose? 

POWER MEANS GIVING AUTHORITY TO OTHERS
Your first act of authority is when you give it away
by trusting another human being to guide you. 
Debbie Ford in her book, The Dark Side of the Light Chasers
shares a quote, “The 3 mysteries in the world are, air to
birds, water to fish, and man unto himself.”  Your job in
the world is to discover yourself and your truth.  But you
will forever be a mystery to yourself.  Only through
the reflection of yourself in the eyes of others can
you know yourself well enough to take the authority
you will need have to live your life purpose. 

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION: TAKE AUTHORITY IN YOUR LIFE
This year, if your new year’s resolutions are to
quit smoking, lose weight, make more money or any
other material thing, consider instead making a
deeper resolution.  Make a resolution to become
the person that has enough authority in your
life that when you choose to do something, you
do it. 

To gain greater authority in your life, your choices,
and the impact you have in the world begins today. 
Right now, you have all the authority you need to
live in heaven.  It begins with asking for help. 

The action plan begins by finding a person who has
authority, respect them, and let them teach you.
You should pay them in any way you can and pay them
more than they ask.  You may already be in relationship
to them and just don’t see it or they may be someone
you have wanted to work with but have never pulled
the trigger.  

To find the right person to help you into your authority
you need to ask yourself:  
• What do you know you should be doing in your
life but you are not? 
• What are you doing in your life that you know
you shouldn’t be doing?
Once you answer those questions: Find a person who is
doing what you know you should be doing, or is
disciplined enough to not be doing what you are doing,
and you have found your next master teacher.   

You are capable of changing the world once you have
all of your personal authority.  The journey to
enlightenment is hard won and has to do with the
understanding your authority and its purpose in your
life.  The paradox that you have to give away your
authority to get it may just be the 2012 prophecy
of the end of the world.  Once you have your authority
the world will never look the same again.
