After you have created your account and logged in the first thing you’ll see is your dashboard. This is where you will be adding and managing your social networking profiles. There you will be presented with several different options, one of which will be adding in your social networks.
– Connecting Social Networks
Typically new users are prompted with a box that allows them to add their first social network to their dashboard. Alternatively you can fromthe launch bar located on the left-hand side of your screen. at thebottom of that page you will see the a button that says “Add a SocialNetwork”. When you click on that button you will be presented with the opportunity to connect to several social networks including; Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, as well as others.
To connect to your social networks simply click on the network and authorize the application. You will be required to login, so it’s a good idea to have your usernames and passwords handy to help make the process quick and easy. After you begin adding your social networks to the dashboard they will all be listed on this page for easy access.
When you log in to your account you will notice that Streams is thedefault dashboard view. Your Streams are customizable and easy to navigate. From within your streams you can create tabs and columns, that you can use to organize, monitor and manage your social networks, kind of like a filing cabinet.
Columns give you the ability to read and responding to messages that are grouped and organized according to your Tabs. Just like streams they are completely customizable which means youcan re-arrange their order them simply by dragging and droppingthem where you want them to go.
– Composing and Publishing
Composing and sending messages is the main way users communicate with the HootSuite dashboard. To publish your first message simply click inside the compose field in the upper left-hand corner of your dashboard, then type your message select the social network you want to publish it to and click send.
You will also find a publisher tab on the left hand menu of your dashboard. From there you can create content, scheduled messages inbulk, manage messages created by team members and view pastmessages as we discussed in lesson one.
